Spaced repetition

Review on day 5, 10 and 30, right before you’d forget.

Spaced repetition schedules reviews at growing intervals, so each review comes just as a memory starts to fade. It is the core of every FocusKept Learning session.

How it works

Memory fades quickly after learning, but each successful review slows the forgetting. Spacing reviews out, with longer gaps each time, gives you the most retention for the least review time.

FocusKept schedules every knowledge card automatically: first review on day 5, then day 10 and day 30. After that the gap becomes 60 days and doubles with each pass, up to 180 days. Miss a question and the card returns in 2 days. You can change the three first steps in Settings.

Step by step

  1. Finish a Learning session and save your knowledge card.
  2. Get a reminder when a review is due (email or browser).
  3. Answer the card’s questions from memory.
  4. Pass to move to the next interval; miss and the card returns in 2 days.

Best for

  • Anything you want to remember for months, not days
  • Exam preparation over several weeks
  • Professional knowledge you use rarely but need to keep

When not to use it

  • Cramming for tomorrow; spaced repetition works over weeks

Questions

Why day 5, 10 and 30?

They are simple, memorable steps that spread reviews over the first month, when forgetting is fastest. You can adjust them in Settings.

What if I miss a review day?

Overdue cards stay due until you review them. Nothing is lost; just catch up when you can.

Does a review have to be perfect?

A review passes when every answer is correct. Partly right counts as a miss, so the card comes back sooner.
