Privacy policy

What we collect

Account data: your name, email address and a securely hashed password, or your Google account identifier if you sign in with Google.

Product data you create: focus sessions (technique, duration, focus rating, notes and goals), tasks and projects, learning topics, notes, Feynman explanations, review questions, your review answers and their results, and your settings (language, time zone, reminder time and similar).

Device and notification data: if you enable browser notifications, the push subscription address your browser gives us. Sessions store your IP address and browser user agent for security.

Without an account, Work-mode sessions and tasks stay in your browser’s local storage on your device. They reach our servers only if you choose to import them after signing up.

Optional analytics: only if you allow it, we collect anonymous usage events (for example, that a session or review was completed). We never send your text, explanations or answers to analytics.

How we use it

To provide the service: run your timer and statistics, schedule reviews, send the reminders you asked for, and keep your account secure.

To provide AI features: generate feedback, review questions and answer grading from what you write.

To process payments and manage your plan, through our payment provider.

To understand and improve the product, using analytics only with your consent, and error reports that we strip of personal data where possible.

AI processing by OpenAI

When you use AI feedback, question generation or answer grading, the topic, your explanation, the questions and your answers are sent to OpenAI for processing.

Our OpenAI project is configured to share API data with OpenAI, which means OpenAI may use this content to improve its models. Please don’t include personal or sensitive information in explanations or answers.

You can always use FocusKept without AI by writing your questions yourself and grading your own answers.

Service providers

We use these providers to run FocusKept: OpenAI (AI features, see above); Resend (sending email); Polar (payments, as merchant of record, which also handles invoices and sales tax); PostHog (product analytics, only with your consent); Sentry (error monitoring); Google (sign-in, only if you choose it); Cloudflare (DNS and network); and our hosting provider [name — owner to add].

Each provider only receives the data it needs for its task. Some providers may process data outside your country; where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep data

We keep your account and product data until you delete your account. Deleting your account removes your sessions, tasks, cards, reviews and settings from our database.

Notification logs are deleted after 180 days. Backups are kept for [period — owner to set] and then overwritten. Payment records are kept by Polar and by us as long as the law requires.

Your choices and rights

You can download all your data at any time from Settings (JSON and CSV), change it in the app, turn off emails and notifications, withdraw analytics consent, and delete your account.

Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, restrict or object to processing, and to complain to a data protection authority. Write to [email protected] and we’ll respond within the time the law requires.

Cookies and local storage

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and remember your language. We use local storage on your device for your running timer, settings and, if you have no account, your sessions. Analytics cookies are only set after you allow them.

Children

FocusKept is not intended for children under 16 without the consent of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has given us personal data without consent, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will update the date above and tell signed-in users in the app or by email.
